The CDM/CFPP exam will take place on April 29, 2006 in Casper, Wyoming Continuing Education Requirements:
To maintain the certified dietary manager (CDM, CFPP) credential, you must earn 45 continuing education hours of continuing education every three years. Five of these continuing education hours must be in sanitation and safety. Since continuing education is only awarded to programs related to the industry, this requirement guarantees that you will continue updating your professional skills throughout your career.
Fees:
In addition to earning continuing education hours, you must pay an annual maintenance fee to maintain your certification. This fee is included in your annual dues notice. Failure to earn the required continuing education hours or pay the annual fee may result in loss of your certification.
Determining Your Qualifying Period:
Your qualifying period begins when you have passed the exam and submitted all required paperwork to DMA. It ends three years later on May 31. Each successive qualifying period begins on June 1 and ends May 31.
Checking Your Continuing Education Hours:
To find out how many hours of continuing education are on record for you, call DMA at 800.323.1908. In January and again in March the year your qualifying period ends, you will also receive a warning notice if you are short continuing education hours. Always keep a photocopy of paperwork you submit to DMA for your own records.
Earning Clock Hours:
There are several ways to earn continuing education hours, including reading approved books and listening to approved audiotapes.
You may also attend a previously approved program (known as a program with prior approval), or you may submit a program you have already attended that you feel should qualify for credit (known as a subsequent approval request). A prior approval is preferred because you know the amount of credit you will receive ahead of time. For a list of prior-approved programs, contact DMA at 800.323.1908. Another way to find out if a program has received prior approval is to contact the program sponsor or coordinator to see if DMA approval has been requested. If it has not, either request prior approval or submit the program for subsequent approval. Both forms are available from DMA at no charge.
